Dear Citizens of Cecil County:
Being elected Sheriff of Cecil County in December 2002 was a great honor for me. Having the citizens reaffirm their support in 2006 and re-elect me to serve another term was even a greater honor. As the only law enforcement officer directly accountable to the public at large, the Office of Sheriff has always been accorded great dignity and a high level of trust. Throughout the years, the Sheriff’s Office has evolved to meet many of the challenges of modern life, while still retaining the principle of being accountable to those we serve. Now more than ever, law enforcement is faced with complex tactics, technology, and social attitudes that are rapidly changing. Despite the changing face of our world, I believe that mutual respect, trust, and pride in our organization and the community, combined with traditional values and innovative techniques will make our community a safe place to live, work, and visit.
During my time in office I have been able to address many areas of concern within the Sheriff’s Office. Eight years ago, I pledged to lead a professional, non-political Sheriff’s Office – one that would promote positive interaction between all criminal justice agencies to increase effectiveness of law enforcement services to the citizens of Cecil County. Further I pledged to encourage professionalism and high standards in county law enforcement and to rebuild confidence and trust among the ranks. I also pledged to work to keep our schools safe for students and staff, and to help foster a positive learning environment in which our children could prosper. In addition, there was a need to address security, safety and overcrowding concerns at the correction facility. The Office of Sheriff is now positioned to provide a high level of service in a cost effective manner that the public has come to expect.
As Sheriff of Cecil County, I’ve had the privilege of working with some of the finest men and women in law enforcement today, and with the help of their expertise, intelligence and professionalism we have worked together to become the lead police agency in the county. Even more, we are continuing to improve and take on additional responsibilities in order to provide the quality of service that our citizens deserve. As your Sheriff, I will strive to make Cecil County a better place to live, work, and raise our families. Our mission is to work with the community to prevent crime and protect the citizens.
